🧾 What is GST?

  • GST (Goods & Services Tax) is a destination-based, multi-stage indirect tax implemented on 1 July 2017 via the Constitution’s 101st Amendment 

  • Replaced multiple indirect taxes—VAT, excise duty, service tax, octroi, etc.—by consolidating them into a single nationwide regime.

  • Slabs: 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%, with special 0.25% on rough stones and 3% on gold; compensation cess applies to items like luxury cars and aerated drinks .
